Supporting the second level computer science curriculum
Novel Analytics hosts a range of resources to support teachers and students in the field of computer science.
The website features data relating to three celebrated novels – Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (1813); Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818,1832) and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897). It also hosts a series of python worksheets and clean and accessible .txt file versions of these 3 texts. Using each of these books and their character databases as a dataset, you will learn a number of important analytical tools including word frequency, character attribute and metadata analysis.
You will be able to see how the Python coding and data analysis skills you learn on the Computer Science curriculum can be combined with the skills of reading and comprehension you learn as part of your English curriculum to enrich your understanding not only of python coding but also the fictional worlds of these classic novels.
